WOOSTER, Ohio – May 31, 2013
Harvest for Hunger is a cooperative effort of four Northeast Ohio Foodbanks, covering 19 counties and takes place every March.
This collaboration represents one of the largest food and funds drives in the country and is the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank’s largest fundraising campaign. The campaign helps The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank support food distribution all year long to food pantries, hot meal sites, shelters and other hunger-relief programs in Carroll, Holmes, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties.
In our community, as many as 180,000 people rely on the Foodbank for emergency food assistance each year. One in six Ohioans are at risk of hunger. 31% of household members served by the Foodbank are children under the age of 18 years old, 69% of adult clients served by the Foodbank have a high school education and 19% have gone to college. 74% of pantry programs are run completely by volunteers.
The 2013 Harvest for Hunger campaign raised a total of $1,058,543 worth of food. $43,619 came from Buehler’s and its customers when they made a cash donation or purchased food to place in the donation bins located in the stores. Bob Buehler, Vice President of Marketing and Merchandising stated “we are happy to participate in the Harvest for Hunger campaign and are humbled by our customer’s generosity”.
