Today marks the official opening of the State Liquor Agency, inside Buehler’s Fresh Foods Wooster Milltown supermarket at 3540 Burbank Road, Wooster, Ohio. This completes the transfer and relocation agreement of Gary’s Liquor Agency, which Buehler’s purchased in October of 2013.

Dan Shanahan, President and COO of Buehler’s Fresh Foods stated, “With the highly successful opening of our Ashland State Liquor Agency in April, this move continues the establishment of Ohio Liquor Agencies inside Buehler’s supermarkets, and completes another phase of our Wooster Milltown remodel.”

Ron James, Buehler’s Director of Beer, Wine and Liquor added, “We are proud to offer our customers the convenience of one-stop shopping, and have strived to respect customers’ considerations by keeping this a store within a store, with its own doorway and register for payment.”

Buehler’s has a strong beer and wine offering, with over 500 beers and 1,000 wines available daily. There is a 10% discount on wine case purchases, and liquor agency customers may use their credit or debit cards. Wooster Liquor Agency customer service and convenience is enhanced with newly expanded hours, Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sundays.

“We would like to thank the Ohio Division of Liquor Control for their assistance to complete the transfer and relocation of the liquor agency. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the Wooster community for their patience during the process,” added Jack Kerby, Buehler’s Wooster Milltown Store Manager.

Buehler’s, founded in 1929, is celebrating eighty-five years as an independent, family owned and operated grocer. Buehler’s is recognized as a pacesetter in the industry, and is positioned for growth as a trusted business partner.

Buehler’s Fresh Foods Expands Rewards for Fuel Program

Starting May 7, Buehler’s customers at seven locations (Brunswick, Wadsworth, Portage Lakes, Canton, Delaware and two Medina locations) will have a choice to redeem their earned loyalty points: redeem for fuel or redeem for food.  Buehler’s is the ONLY grocery store in Ohio to give customers a choice on how they redeem their Buehler’s Rewards electronically.

The program is made possible by a partnership with another Ohio-based company, Speedway LLC (Speedway).  Speedway has more than 1,400 Speedway-branded stores in all, making it easy for customers to cash in on the rewards they earn at Buehler’s.

Dan Shanahan, Buehler’s Chief Operating Officer, states, “We wanted to make it very easy for our customers that choose to use their Buehler’s Rewards® for fuel discounts.  Customers welcome our partnership with Speedway because of the many convenient Speedway locations, as well as their very competitive fuel prices.”

Bob Buehler, EVP Marketing & Merchandising said “Customers will use their Buehler’s Advantage Card to earn points on purchases at Buehler’s, and then use their Speedy Rewards® card at the Speedway pump to discount the price.  The system will also adjust the amount of Buehler’s Rewards points the customer has left over to redeem for fuel, or at Buehler’s to redeem for food at the checkout.” Customers will also earn Speedy Rewards® points on their purchases at the pump.

Buehler’s Rewards can now be used for food or fuel when the customer follows a simple, one time, on-line process of linking their Buehler’s Advantage Card to their Speedy Rewards® Card.  Customers may then decide to redeem their earned points for food at Buehler’s when they check-out OR to redeem for fuel discounts at any Speedway location.  All leftover or remaining points may be used later on food or fuel.

Customers that have a Buehler’s Advantage Card that do not want the additional choice of fuel need not do anything.  They will continue to earn Buehler’s Rewards to redeem for $10 off at the check-out.

The seven Buehler’s locations will have helpful associates to assist customers in using computers at the store to link their Buehler’s Advantage Cards and Speedy Rewards® Cards.  Speedy Rewards® Cards and Buehler’s Advantage Cards are available at Buehler’s. Customers may also sign up on Buehler’s website, Speedway’s website, or in-store kiosk at any Speedway location.  Deb Wilcox, Buehler’s Director of Communication, states, “It has never been easier to choose how you want to spend your Buehler’s Rewards; redeem for fuel or redeem for food.  We give you a choice each time you shop.

Grocery rewards may be redeemed in $10 increments and fuel rewards may be redeemed in 10 cent increments at Speedway stores.

Buehler’s Fresh Foods Wooster Milltown Remodel Update

WOOSTER, Ohio- May 6, 2014 With the near completion of Phases 1 and 2 of Buehler’s Wooster Milltown remodeling project, details for Phase 3 are announced. Rapid and exciting changes will begin in May when the Produce Department will move to the front of the store, just inside the entrance, with a welcomed display of the freshest fruits and vegetables, as well as organic, fresh cut and local selections. The Liquor Agency will be relocated from its current location (Gary’s Liquor Agency in the strip center) to its new location – the area currently occupied by produce inside Buehler’s Milltown. Once relocated, the agency will be a “store within a store,” housed within a walled off area and flanked by Buehler’s current beer and wine selections. This will take place by late June.

“Our Sign the Beam promotion was a huge success, allowing employees and customers to be part of history,” stated Jack Kerby, Store Manager Buehler’s Wooster Milltown. “as signatures now fill a structural steel I-beam that will be lifted and exposed, a permanent part of the front entrance architecture.” Jack added, “The Handprints in History promotion is in effect now through July 6, and will allow ten of KidzPark kids’ handprints to be part of the stone foundation in the newly remodeled entrance.”

June will bring dramatic upgrades to the front entrance. The existing patio will be encased in glass, with doors on either side, allowing for “no such thing as a poor parking spot.” The inviting new store entrance will house the grocery carts, and the restrooms will get a facelift.

The Food Service section will begin to take shape in late summer with a new and exciting design and concept. The Mill Restaurant will be transformed to a new fast-casual, market-style dining concept which will provide a quiet, relaxed atmosphere to sit down and enjoy an exciting array of chef-prepared foods. Coming to Milltown will be made-to-order fresh foods: freshly-made hand-stretched pizza (whole or by the slice), custom signature sandwiches using fresh-baked breads from the bakery, and authentic wok-fired Chinese cuisine. This new concept will also include six varieties hot soups made from scratch, expanded salad bar, sushi rolled by hand daily by our in-store sushi chefs, and freshly prepared entrees and sides dishes (hot or cold); all available as take-home or dine-in options. A convenient self-serve drink area and designated register will give customers the value and convenience they have been asking for, and a new chef school will provide a training ground for new recipes and new menu items, while Milltown shoppers watch through a glass partition.

WOOSTER, Ohio – June, 2013

Becky Foster, Vice President of Construction and Maintenance for E&H Family Group, the umbrella company for Buehler’s Fresh Foods, has been chosen as one of the top women in grocery based on her efforts and contributions with the GreenChill Partnership. GreenChill Partnership is a program to monitor and reduce leakage of refrigerants into the atmosphere. Becky’s efforts with the GreenChill Partnership and other grocers across the United States resulted in improved industry standards on refrigerants. She also received an award from the GreenChill Partnership for her efforts to make Buehler’s one of the most improved grocers in 2012.

Now in its seventh year, PG’s Top Women in Grocery awards program recognizes the integral role women play across all areas of the dynamic retail food industry. As in years’ past, winning candidates were chosen from all levels of the industry within the retailer and supplier communities in three sectors – Senior-Level Executives, Rising Stars and Store Managers – and collectively represent female movers and shakers within the retail food industry who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and influence in their companies, as well as in the industry at large.

“…our editorial staff has never ceased to be amazed at the level of dedication, talent, expertise and sheer determination demonstrated by our finalists,” notes Meg Major, PG’s Editorial Director.

Major said one of the main reasons for the increases in both the quality and number of eligible applicants has been the continuing proliferation of women throughout the grocery industry, who continue to excel, not only in traditionally female niches as store managers and marketing positions, but also into nontraditional roles previously held only by men – construction, information technology, transportation and warehouse facilities management.

All Top Women in Grocery winners will be recognized in PG’s June 2013 issue, and will also be honored at a gala awards celebration that will take place in late 2013.

As the voice of the retail food industry for 91 years, Progressive Grocer serves the largest audience in the retail food channel, including top management at supermarket headquarters and top decision-makers at store level. From chain supermarkets to independent supermarkets, supercenters, wholesalers and food brokers, PG’s national readership relies on the publication and website for its authoritative, relevant, research-based editorial coverage, news and analysis. Progressive Grocer is owned by Stagnito Media, based in Deerfield, Ill. For more information, visit www.progressivegrocer.com
