Buehler’s Fresh Foods hosts “Empty Bowls Drive-Thru Soup Event”
to benefit A Whole Community, Inc.

Event Date: Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 3:00-6:30 PM in the Buehler’s Milltown store parking lot

Buehler’s “Empty Bowls Drive-Thru Soup Event” on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 3:00-6:30 PM will offer a Soup Dinner (16 oz. soup, 2 dinner rolls, and 1 pumpkin donut) for $10.00.  Optional pottery bowls donated by Jack Rogers will also be available for an additional $10.00.  The proceeds from the event will assist A Whole Community, Inc. (AWC) with its Community Food Project.  AWC gathers surplus produce from local farms and shares with local food pantries, free meal sites, and low-income neighborhoods to reduce food waste and increase farm-fresh produce to those in need.

A Whole Community, Inc. (AWC) is a 501(c)(3) public non-profit organization that helps individuals, families, and communities transition to wholeness.  This is AWC’s fourth year operating a Community Food Project, which has three goals: 1) Reduce food waste, 2) Increase farm-fresh produce offered to those in need at food pantries, community meal sites, and low-income neighborhoods, and 3) Increase nutrition.

In 2019, AWC received over 136,000 pounds of farm-fresh produce from 72 farms, which was delivered to 55 food pantries, free meal sites, and low-income neighborhoods, that fed over 5,000 individuals monthly (Mid-June through Mid-October).

Karen Potter, Executive Director for A Whole Community, Inc., shared “We are grateful for this opportunity to partner with Buehler’s Fresh Foods on this event, which will ultimately help feed those in need locally. Buehler’s has been supportive of AWC by donating soup for our other fundraising events in the past. This year has new challenges in many ways for many people. I appreciate the creativity of Buehler’s staff in coming up with a way to make this event safe with social distancing, while raising funds to help others.  Buehler’s Fresh Foods cares about their community.”

“We are thrilled to partner with A Whole Community to provide food for this unique fundraising event. We’re thankful to be able to help raise money to feed individuals in our local community that are in need,” said Jennifer Hudson, Director of Marketing at Buehler’s Fresh Foods.

Buehler’s Fresh Foods announces collaboration with BrewDog Brewery

Buehler’s Fresh Foods has collaborated with BrewDog Brewery to craft a new special edition mango-pineapple flavored India Pale Ale named “Aloha Shoppers IPA”.  The product is now available at all 13 Buehler’s locations throughout Northeast Ohio and Buehler’s North Court Beverage in Medina. Ron James, Director of Beer and Wine for Buehler’s, said “We created a Mango-Pineapple IPA because fruit infusions are gaining popularity and appeal to those looking for more adventurous IPA styles. Having the opportunity to work on our own special edition with one of our favorite breweries is a special moment for us.”

According to Mark Beaver of BrewDog Brewery, “This collaboration is long in the making. It comes down to two teams working together to do something fun during the pandemic. Together, we took the beer that started it all (Punk IPA) and worked in a little Buehler’s flare to come up with a lighthearted, easy drinking Pineapple Mango IPA. At 5.2% ABV, Aloha Shoppers is simple and straightforward, designed to put the people first.”

Buehler’s Fresh Foods Partners with the American Heart Association

Buehler’s Fresh Foods is promoting a Life is Why We Give campaign at the registers of all 13 stores from September 19, 2020 – October 17, 2020 asking customers to buy a $1, $5 or $10 heart in support of the American Heart Association of Stark and Wayne counties.

Customers are encouraged to write their ‘WHY’ on the heart and hearts will be posted at each of the stores to raise awareness.  Additionally, wallet cards with the signs of heart attack and stroke will be available for free while supplies last.

Mike Davidson stated, “We are honored to be partnering with the American Heart Association as we battle a disease that has an impact on every one of our customers and employees. Buehler’s Fresh Foods appreciates the support of our customers who are always generous contributors to our campaign.”

The leading cause of death in the Wayne and Stark communities is heart disease at 28%. 1 in 3 of those community members are at high risk for heart disease, and nearly 100,000 people are diagnosed with hypertension or high blood pressure. Your support of the American Heart Association will also allow us to place 500 automatic blood pressure cuffs and lifesaving education in Stark and Wayne Counties.

About the Life is Why We Give campaign:

We want everyone to experience more of life’s precious moments. To do that, we must be healthy — in heart and mind. It’s why we’ve made better heart and brain health our mission. And together, we’ve made an extraordinary impact. But we’re just beginning. Until the world is free of heart disease and stroke, we’ll work together to make a healthier, longer life possible for everyone. Why do we do what we do? Because we’re the American Heart Association. And life is why.

About the American Heart Association:

The American Heart Association is devoted to saving people from heart disease and stroke – the two leading causes of death in the world. The AHA teams with millions of volunteers to fund innovative research, fight for stronger public health policies, and provide lifesaving tools and information to prevent and treat these diseases.

About Buehler’s Fresh Foods:

Buehler’s Fresh Foods grocery store was founded in 1929 by E.L. Buehler and his wife, Helen. The family moved the business in 1932 to Wooster, and, after four generations, grew to 13 stores serving the northeast Ohio market. In 2017, Buehler’s became an ESOP (employee stock ownership program) with the belief that selling to their own employees was the best way to assure the continuation of the innovative and creative spirit that made the chain a benchmark for independent grocers.

The 13 Buehler’s Fresh Foods supermarkets are located in Wooster (2), Orrville, Wadsworth, Medina (2), Ashland, New Philadelphia, Dover, Jackson Township (Canton), Coshocton, Portage Lakes (Green) and Massillon, Ohio.
